Privacy Policy
The short version
Your journal stays on your iPhone. Nothing is sent anywhere until you tap an AI button, and then only what that button needs. There are no ads, no tracking and no analytics, and we don't sell your information.
Who we are
Little Paws is made by Beauty and Bytes, LLC, based in California, USA. We are responsible for your information under this policy (in EU and UK law, the controller).
What stays on your iPhone
Pets, journal entries, photos, vet visits, reminders and questions are stored on this iPhone and included in your device backups. Scanning discharge papers and the photo check that looks for an animal run on your iPhone; those photos are not uploaded for that. If you choose Back up to a file, that file holds your whole journal and its photos and goes only where you send it, such as AirDrop, Files or iCloud Drive.
What is sent, and when
Describe with AI sends that photo (resized, without location or camera details) and your note. If the photo shows a person with your pet, that is sent as part of the image. Summarize with AI sends your vet's notes. A vet-prep summary sends the text and dates of the journal entries in that period, never photos. Each request goes to the Little Paws service, which passes it to our AI provider to write the description or summary and returns the result to your iPhone.
Why we can use it
We send a photo or text for AI processing only when you ask, and only after you've allowed sending in the app; that consent is our legal basis. You can withdraw it at any time by turning off Allow sending to Little Paws AI in Settings. We use the anonymous install ID based on our legitimate interest in keeping the service fair and available.
Who processes it for us
Render hosts the Little Paws service in the United States. Google processes AI requests through its Gemini API, on a paid plan under which requests are not used to improve Google's products or train its models. Apple handles purchases and app distribution. These providers process data for us under their data processing terms.
How long it's kept
The Little Paws service doesn't store photos, notes or AI results; it discards them after replying. Its logs record only the time, type and outcome of each request, never the content, and our hosting provider keeps them for about 7 days. The hosting provider may also keep standard technical records, such as IP addresses, for a short time for security. The install ID is held in memory for about an hour to apply fair-use limits and is not written to logs. Google keeps prompts, the photo or text sent with them and the AI's responses for 55 days to detect abuse and meet legal obligations. Your journal stays on your iPhone until you delete it.
International transfers
The Little Paws service runs in the United States, and Google may process requests in the US or other countries. If you live elsewhere, your request is transferred there, protected by the safeguards in our providers' data processing terms, such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
Identifiers
Each AI request includes a random install ID so fair-use limits can be applied. It isn't linked to your name, email or Apple Account. Little Paws has no accounts.
Purchases
Subscriptions are handled by Apple. The app receives only whether Pro is active; we never see your payment details.
Permissions
Camera and photo access are used only for the photos you choose. Notifications deliver your reminders. Reminders access is used only if you choose to copy reminders to the Reminders app.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, such as the EU, UK or California, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict its use, and to withdraw consent. Most of your information exists only on your iPhone, where you can view, edit or delete it, or use Delete everything on this iPhone. Because the Little Paws service keeps no content, there's usually nothing on our side to access or delete, but email us and we'll help. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Selling and advertising
We don't sell or share personal information, and we don't use it for advertising or cross-app tracking.
Adults only
Little Paws is for adults 18 and older and is not directed to children. Its AI features are provided by a service that may only be used by adults.
Your choices
You can turn off sending to the AI service in Settings, and delete everything on this iPhone with Settings › Delete everything on this iPhone.
Changes
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows the latest version, and we'll give notice in the app or on our website before significant changes take effect.
